Facades & Power Poles
Oil on canvas. 31 x 31 cm. Framed. 2018
The rooftop paintings started when I wanted to paint the local village but there was too much clutter, so I looked up. Do you ever look up at the sky, see blue and feel a tremendous sense of space and freedom?
There is a whole new visual panorama that would otherwise go unnoticed when one looks up.
You feel a tremendous sense of space and freedom, like anything is possible beyond…
Many rooftops and facades are untouched by renovation and signage (perhaps forgotten or too hard to reach), retain their original character and are surprising little affected by the elements.
You can only wonder what these facades have seen over their many years, and the stories they could tell… These paintings were inspired by my observations of light playing with architectural details when looking up.
Suzy attended Hornsby TAFE College and studied fine art under renowned landscape painter, Clem Millward, then continued on to the Sydney Institute Design Centre, graduating with a Diploma of Graphic Design (HONS). For many years she practised as an award winning designer in various corporate sectors while continuing to draw and paint.
Since 2008 Suzy has been painting full-time and has successfully exhibited in Sydney and regional NSW galleries. Her paintings focus mainly on the effects of light on urban industrial and ocean subjects. Suzy’s paintings are held by collectors throughout Australia and overseas.
In 2018 she was honoured to be accepted as an exhibiting member of the Australian Society of Marine Artists (ASMA).
