SERIGRAPHY & SCREENPRINTING TECHNIQUES

WHAT IS AN ORIGINAL PRINT?

Jenie Fawckner09.23.2015

Jenie Fawckner

jenie-profile Growing up on a sheep and cattle property in Central Queensland Jenie has developed an ongoing fixation with the colour and composition of the Australian landscape for as long as she can remember. This has proved to be a strong base for the subject treatment in all of her work. Jenie paints and screen prints with a colour palette “in tune with the subtle and ever changing seasonal landscape around her”. Her artistic side was fostered from early childhood by a wonderfully creative mother and a stimulating environment, both paired with the freedom of her own imagination. Graduating from Queensland College of Art with a Degree in Fine Art Jenie soon developed a very unique screen printing style that has set her hand painted screen prints apart from most other screen printing processes. Jenie says of her printmaking “I am consistently drawn to the freedom of mark making as this is a very large part of my artistic process. This achieves an overall effect in my screen printing that seems realistic at a distance but upon closer inspection is really just an amalgamation of splashes and strokes. I love the contradiction between realism and abstraction this creates”. Jenie has held numerous group and two solo exhibitions in Brisbane. She exhibits constantly in Regional Galleries and Art events. Jenie had a large solo exhibition in 2010 at Roma on Bungil Gallery which was very well received. She currently runs a cattle property 80 km from Roma Qld with her husband Gordon. Jenie works from her studio in the bush and is fulfilling a full time Art career now her four school age children are a little older. “To take a simple or insignificant scene from my natural surroundings and present it artistically in a way that gives it relevance and appeal teaches me to stop and appreciate every little aspect of nature. My joy is in creating....my endeavour is to share it.”
